5.2.2 Open Loop Injector and Fuel Rail Characterization
For ease of calculation and calibration, the engine controller’s software
assumes the injector is a linear device. As a linear device, the injector can
be characterized by the slope in the traditional Y = M*X + B equation of a
line.
In most fuel systems, fuel flow rate varies linearly and proportionally with
injector on-time. Y = M*X + B can be used to effectively model “fuel
flow” vs. “on-time.”
