7-9 Replacing ball bearing
1. Check oil seal(s) and replace if defective.
2. Check ball bearing(s) for smooth rotation. If not,
remove ball bearing(s) using bearing wedge (A)
897701-02830 or a suitable bearing puller.
3.
Fan side:
Install new ball bearing using bear-
ing/seal tool 897726-21430 (B) (inner dia. 15 mm,
outer dia. 24.5 mm) to the bottom.

Starter side:
Install new ball bearing using
bearing/seal tool 897726-16431 (C) (inner dia. 17
mm, outer dia. 35 mm) to the bottom.
NOTE:
Preheat ball bearing using a heating gun,
heat lamp, or a suitable heater for easier installa-
tion.
WARNING DANGER
When using a heat gun, wear gloves. Other-
wise, a burn will result.
7-10 Removing ball bearing in crankcase
When holding on assmbling ball bearing in crank-
case after disassembling crankcase, remove ball
bearing as follows.
1. Check main ball bearing for smooth rotation,
after disassembling crankshaft. If rough, replace it
(them) with new one.
2. Pry oil seal from crankcase.
3. Remove main ball bearing from crankcase half
using bearing tool 897701-14732 as follows.

Fan side:
Set boss (A) and shaft (B) with adapt-
er (C) (inner dia. 12 mm, outer dia. 19 mm) as
shown.
Starter side:
Set boss (A) and shaft (B) as shown.
5. Tighten shaft (B) with wrench to remove ball
bearing.
6. Install new ball bearing to crankshaft (Refer to
“7-9 Replacing ball bearing”).
