GENERAL SERVICE PROCEDURES
WARNING: TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF
PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO THE
EQUIPMENT, DO NOT OPERATE THE ENGINE WITH
THE HOOD OPEN UNTIL THE FAN BLADE HAS
BEEN EXAMINED FOR POSSIBLE CRACKS AND
SEPARATION.
NOTE: Specifications show the expected minimum or
maximum condition.
NOTE: If a component fails to meet the specifications, it
is necessary to replace or refinish. If the component can
be refinished, wear limits are provided as an aid to
making a decision. Any component that fails to meet
specifications and cannot be refinished must be
replaced.
Camshaft Journal Diameter
Measure each camshaft journal diameter in two
directions.
If it is out of specification, replace as necessary.
Camshaft Journal Clearance
NOTE: The camshaft journals must meet specifications
before checking camshaft journal clearance.
Measure each camshaft bearing in two
directions.
Subtract the camshaft journal diameter from the
camshaft bearing diameter
Camshaft Lobe Surface
Inspect camshaft lobes for pitting or damage in
the active area. Minor pitting is acceptable
outside the active area.
