WSG-1068 GENERAL INFORMATION
Bearing Inspection
Inspect bearings for the following defects. Possible
causes are shown:
 Cratering – fatigue failure (A)
 Spot polishing – improper seating (B)
 Scratching – dirty (C)
 Base exposed – poor lubrication (D)
 Both edges worn – journal damaged (E)
 One edge worn – journal tapered or bearing not
seated (F)
Roller Follower Inspection
 Inspect the roller for flat spots or scoring. If any
damage is found, inspect the camshaft lobes
and hydraulic lash adjusters for damage.
Hydraulic Lash Adjuster Inspection
 Inspect the hydraulic lash adjuster and roller for
damage. If any damage is found, inspect the
camshaft lobes and valves for damage.
