People with diabetes have elevated blood
glucose levels after meals, requiring bolus
doses of insulin to lower blood glucose
levels. A bolus refers to the amount of
insulin that is quickly infused before a meal.
Carbohydrates, proteins and fats all affect
your blood glucose level differently (Figure
41). There are two types of boluses that can
be administered to address different types
of food intake.
