5.4.1 PoE Cable Grounding Recommendations
The requirements on grounding depends on the risk of lightning strikes in the
environment where the equipment is installed.
5.4.1.1 PoE Cable Grounding Recommendations for Indoor and Urban Use
It is not necessary to ground the PoE cable in the following situation:
• The equipment is installed in an environment where there is no risk of
lightning strike near the equipment or cable.
• The PoE cable is shorter than 20 meters.
The RJ45 connector shall always be connected to a shielded jack.
5.4.1.2 PoE Cable Grounding Recommendations for Additional Lightning
Protection
It is recommended to use a combination of several pieces of grounding
equipment for the sites, unless there are national standards or other site
requirements that need to be considered.
