Earthing cable

Cable earthing kit
D PoE injector
• If the PoE injector is mounted outdoors, the earthing
cable attached to the PoE injector replaces the
cable earthing kit.
• If an Ethernet surge protector is used, the earthing
cable attached to the Ethernet surge protector
replaces the cable earthing kit.
• If the PoE injector is mounted indoors and an
Ethernet surge protector is not used, use the cable
earthing kit.
This grounding combination will withstand severe conditions. Normally the
outdoor grounding equipment is connected to a separate earthing cable. It is
recommended that the PoE cable be grounded in its lower part and for long
cables every 50 meters (55 yards). It is also recommended to ground the cable
before sharp bends.
Make sure the grounding is properly done to improve protection against
overvoltage.
5.4.2 Testing the PoE Cable
Make sure that there is no short circuit in the PoE cable before connecting to
the equipment. Testing the PoE cable is required.
Caution!
Make sure the PoE cable is handled with care in order not to deform or tear it.
Remove the protective cap from the cable if there is one.
Test the cable with an ohmmeter or, optionally, an Ethernet cable tester. The
Ethernet cable tester may require the Ethernet cable to be connected to a
piece of powered-on Ethernet equipment to make sure that there is a carrier
signal present.
5.4.3 Installing the PoE Injector
Mount the PoE injector by following the installation instruction enclosed in the
PoE injector delivery.
