Alternately, an external voltage source may be applied as shown in Figure 2-4. The Vext voltage must be
greater than the voltage supplied to the GPI by at least 5v.

2.7.2. Connecting the General Purpose Outputs
The Programmable GPOs are used to trigger external devices and a transition tally capability. The GPOs
will be in the de-energized state when the power is off so all contacts will be closed. When the unit is
powered up the GPO Relay contacts will open. A transition tally will cause a contact closure. The 4
contact sets are assigned to particular transition tallies using the TRANSITION menus. (See section 3.8)
