Power Supplies
5420F models have 1 hot-swappable PSU and 1 fixed PSU. 5420M models have 2 hot-swappable PSUs.
For more information about the power supplies used in the 5420 Series switches, see Power Supplies
for Use with Your Switch on page 31.
Power supplies are ordered separately.
Stacking
Each 5420 unit comes equipped with two 10GbE stacking ports. When running ExtremeEXOS, up to
eight switches can be stacked using qualified SFP+ direct attach cables and optical transceivers located
on the front panel of the switch. Standard 10 Gb Ethernet Optics and passive and active cables can be
used in the SFP+ ports for stacking 5420s together using SummitStack-V40 stacking (10G link running
at HG).
Note
On 5420M switch models, the 2 stacking ports are “Universal Ethernet” ports, labeled “U1” and
“U2.” These ports can operate either as stacking ports, or as 10G Ethernet ports with SFP+
optics using the disable stacking-support command.
Stacking cables for 5420 Series switches are ordered separately.
For information about SFP+ optical modules, see the Extreme Optics website.
Operating Temperatures
All 5420 Series switch models support an operating range from -5°C to 50°C. Temperature restrictions
apply for some models at higher altitudes.
Feature Licensing
The ExtremeSwitching 5420 Series switches support Unified Licensing, so that you can use them with
multiple operating systems. There are two methods of acquiring feature licenses: manual or through
ExtremeCloud IQ™ (XIQ).
For EXOS licensing, see ExtremeXOS 31.3 Feature License Requirements.
For VOSS licensing, see the VOSS User Guide for your version of the VOSS operating system located at
https://www.extremenetworks.com/support/documentation/vsp-operating-system-software-voss-
document-collections/.
For XIQ licensing, see ExtremeCloud IQ Documentation.
