Cabletypesandlength
Itisimportanttousecablesoftheappropriatetypeandlength
•Unlessotherwisestateduseonlystandardcablesofthecorrecttype,suppliedbyFLIR.
•Ensurethatanynon-FLIRcablesareofthecorrectqualityandgauge.Forexample,longer
powercablerunsmayrequirelargerwiregaugestominimizevoltagedropalongtherun.
Cablerouting
Cablesmustberoutedcorrectly,tomaximizeperformanceandprolongcablelife.
•DoNOTbendcablesexcessively.Whereverpossible,ensureaminimumbenddiameter
(Ø)of200mm(7.87in)/minimumbendradius(R)of100mm(3.94in).
•Protectallcablesfromphysicaldamageandexposuretoheat.Usetrunkingorconduit
wherepossible.DoNOTruncablesthroughbilgesordoorways,orclosetomoving
orhotobjects.
•Securecablesinplaceusingcableclipsorcableties.Coilanyexcesscableandtieit
outoftheway.
•Whereacablepassesthroughanexposedbulkheadordeckhead,useasuitable
watertightfeed-through.
•DoNOTruncablesneartoenginesoruorescentlights.
•Alwaysroutedatacablesasfarawayaspossiblefrom:
–otherequipmentandcables,
–highcurrentcarryingACandDCpowerlines,
–antennas.
Strainrelief
Useadequatestrainreliefforcablingtoensurethatconnectorsareprotectedfromstrainand
willnotpulloutunderextremeseaconditions.
Circuitisolation
AppropriatecircuitisolationisrequiredforinstallationsusingbothACandDCcurrent:
•Alwaysuseisolatingtransformersoraseparatepower-invertertorunPC’s,processors,
displaysandothersensitiveelectronicinstrumentsordevices.
•AlwaysuseanisolatingtransformerwithWeatherFAXaudiocables.
•Alwaysuseanisolatedpowersupplywhenusinga3rdpartyaudioamplier.
