Digital Communication Interface
The Bath can communicate with and be controlled by other equipment through the digital
interface. An RS-232 serial interface which is standard and an IEEE-488 GPIB interface is
optional. See Serial Interface Parameters and IEEE-488 Setup (Optional).
With a digital interface, the Bath can connect to a computer or other equipment. Use the remote
communication equipment to:
set the Bath temperature
monitor the temperature
access all controller functions
control cooling
The cooling power switch must be on (I) to control the cooling with the interface.
Serial Communications
The RS-232 serial interface allows serial digital communications over fairly-long distances
(15.24 m). The serial interface can access any of the controller functions, parameters, and
settings discussed in Controller Operation, with the exception of the BAUD Rate parameter. The
serial interface operates with 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity.
Wiring
The serial communications cable attaches to the Bath through the DB-9 connector on the rear
panel. Figure 6 shows the connector pin-out and suggested cable wiring. To eliminate noise, the
serial cable should be shielded with low resistance between the connector (DB-9) and the shield.
