Turn on the controller
Wait for the message “Initializing SDK manager…” followed by “SDK registration success”. It can
take up to 20s to register the SDK.

4.8 Failsafe
Loss of communication
If the communication link between Elios and the GCS is lost. The aircraft will automatically enter in
an emergency landing mode. Meaning, it will land on the ground, wait 30s and shut downs the
motors.
The aircraft will leave this mode if the communication is re-established.
Battery level critical
If the battery reaches a critical level, Elios will enter automatically in an emergency landing mode.
Meaning, an offset on the altitude control has been added. The pilot is still able to override it. But to
prevent any accident, the robot should be landed and turned off within 30sec.
Overriding this failsafe for too long might result in serious damage to the battery and result in a
crash.
A good practice is land the aircraft before its battery reaches 10v.
4.9 Pilot guideline
§
Only if it is authorized by local laws or if a specific authorization was granted
, you can fly the
robot out of your line of sight by using the video feedback from the tablet to navigate. Be careful
to remain within the range of the video signal; if you lose the video signal, try to come back
closer to the antenna’s direct line of sight. Maximum range of the video feedback is about 5km
Line of Sight. In non line of sight, the range depends greatly on the obstacles you encounter. It is
a good practice to consider a maximum range of 200m if flying in non line of sight. The control
signal range is greater than the video feedback.
