  If images on the back of pages are overlaid on the scanned image when scanning a two-sided document, and the "Setting for text only document" checkbox is cleared in the [Read mode option] window ([Option] on the [Scanning] tab of the "Scan and Save Settings" window), mark the "Setting for text only document" checkbox. This setting sharpens characters, lines, and contrasts while removing noise from the back side image. Note that you can also use this mode for documents including photos and illustrations.

  If the file size of a scanned black & white image is the same as for a color document, the B&W document may be scanned in color mode. Select "B&W" from the [Color mode] drop-down list on the [Scanning] tab in the "Scan and Save Settings" window.

  If your Fujitsu Scanner isn't scanning, ensure the USB cable is correctly connected, especially if using a hub (check the hub's power). Try disconnecting and reconnecting the AC adapter/cable, waiting at least 5 seconds before reconnecting. If the 'ScanSnap Manager' icon isn't visible, start it from the Programs menu. As an advanced step, use Device Manager to 'Scan for hardware changes' or 'Refresh'. If problems persist, disconnect and reconnect the AC cable and adapter (again, wait 5 seconds). If using a USB hub, connect the scanner directly to your PC or try different USB ports. Restarting your PC may also help. As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall ScanSnap Manager.

  If lines on the document are blurred and you are scanning in color mode, and the documents include handwritten or typed text, tables, or frames with ruled lines, select the check box for [Setting for text only document] at [Scanning] – [Option] in the “Scan and Save Settings” window. If it does not improve even after you have tried this method, change "Image quality..." setting.

  If the scanned image is too light or too dark, the "Brightness (Black and White scanning only)" setting on [Option] of the [Scanning] tab might be set to extremely Light or Dark. Adjust the brightness at [Scanning] - [Option] in the "Scan and Save Settings" window.

  If paper is not feeding properly, it may be because the Pick roller is dirty or worn out. Clean the Pick roller. Also, check for and remove any debris from the document feeding path. Ensure that the loaded documents meet the conditions specified in section "3.2 Scanning Different Document Types". You can also try slightly pushing the first sheet of the documents at the start of scanning or changing the insertion direction of the document.

  Frequent multi-feeds may occur if the Pad ASSY is dirty or worn. Clean the pad. Also, ensure the document stack is not thicker than 5mm; reduce the number of sheets if necessary.

  Vertical lines may appear if the inside of the ADF is dirty. Clean the inside of the ADF following the instructions in Chapter "6 Daily Care".

  The scanning speed might be slow if your PC doesn't meet the recommended system requirements. If this is the case, at [Scanning] - [Option] in the "Scan and Save Settings" window, clear the checkboxes of the following to increase the scanning speed: Correct skewed character strings automatically and Allow automatic image rotation. Also, if the scanner is connected via USB 1.1, and your PC has a USB 2.0 port, connect the scanner to the USB 2.0 port. If using a USB hub, ensure it also supports USB 2.0 interfaces.
