1. Cancelling a false Distress alert
If distress signals have been transmitted inadvertently, it must be informed to the nearest coast station or
an appropriate coast earth station or RCC by possible means that the signals has been erroneously
transmitted and they are canceled. Cancel the signals on all the radio frequency bands in which the
signals have been transmitted by using the procedure below.
1. Turn off power for the MF/HF radiotelephone and DSC immediately.
2. Turn on the power again, and set the MF/HF radiotelephone at the distress and safety
frequencies in the frequency bands in which the distress signals are transmitted. Refer to the
table below.
If a distress signal has been transmitted at 2187.5 kHz in MF band, set the radiotele-
phone at the distress and safety frequency in MF band, J3E: 2182.0 kHz.
3. Make broadcast to “All stations” giving name of vessel, callsign and DSC number, and cancel
the false distress aleart.

4. Contact the nearest coast station or an appropriate coast earth station or RCC and cancel the
distress alert.
