13: Characteristics
of the GIS-R20
Gateway Product
The GIS-R20 is a hotspot gateway for up to 500 concurrent users; this means that the unit
can have wired computers connected directly to it (Internet kiosks, business center
computers, etc), and can have wireless access points connected to it. Each wireless access
point can provide a wireless, or WiFi connection for laptop computer users who are within
range of the wireless transmission. WiFi enabled devices include notebook computers,
MAC™ computers, iPhones™, iPods™, and Blackberries™. The GIS-R16 gateway product is
shown below.
The GIS-R20 gateway has
five Ethernet connectors.
Two ports are configured
for WAN connections.
Three ports are
configured for LAN
connections. Any network
device or computer can be
connected to the LAN
ports. If more LAN ports
are required then a switch
can be connected.
An application using the GIS-R20 gateway is shown below.
The GIS-R20 is shown
with wireless access
points and Internet kiosks
connected via a switch to
one of the LAN ports. The
two WAN ports provide
load balancing and fail-
over for redundant
operation. Business
computers connected to
the same DSL circuit as
the WAN ports are
protected from hacking by
the PCI DSS compliant
firewall.
