Operation
3. Upper level mark
Engine
Check the engine and engine
mounting.
Look for loose or damaged
fasteners.
Check the propeller for damage.
Check for engine oil leaks.
Flushing device
Check that the flushing device’s garden
hose connector is securely screwed on to
the fit- ting on the bottom cowling. NOTICE:
If the garden hose connector is not
properly connected, cooling water can
leak out and the engine can overheat
during oper- ation.

Install top cowling
1. Be sure that the cowling lock lever is
re- leased.
2. Be sure that the rubber seal is seated
all the way around the top cowling.
3. Place the top cowling on the bottom
cowling.
4. Check to be sure the rubber seal is
seat- ed correctly between the top
cowling and the bottom cowling.
5. Move the lever to lock the cowling as
shown. NOTICE: If the top cowling is
not installed correctly, water spray
under the top cowling can damage
the engine, or the top cowling can
blow off at high speeds. [ECM01991]
After installing, check the fitting of the top
cowling by pushing it with both hands. If the
top cowling is loose, have it repaired by
your Hidea dealer.
Checking power tilt system
Never get under the lower unit
while it is tilted, even when the tilt
support knob is locked. Severe injury
could oc- cur if the outboard motor
accidentally falls.
Body parts can be crushed
between the motor and the clamp
bracket when the
