Starting procedure (warm engine)
1. Place the gear shift lever in neutral.

If the throttle is opened too much, the
en- gine speed rises rapidly, causing the
out- board motor to swivel toward the
starboard side.

The start-in-gear protection device prevents
the engine from starting except when in
neu- tral.
2. Attach the engine shut-off cord to a se-
cure place on your clothing, or your arm
or leg. Then install the clip on the other
end of the cord into the engine shut-off
switch.
3. Open the throttle grip as shown in the
il- lustration.

4. Hold this throttle grip position by
tighten- ing the throttle friction adjuster.
5. Pull the manual starter handle slowly
un- til you feel resistance. Then give a
strong pull straight out to crank and
start the engine. Repeat if necessary.
