Route gaseous system piping with discharge nozzles inside the frames just below
the top of the frame. Gas cylinders and control equipment must be external to the
library. IBM does not supply heat or smoke detectors.
Environmental specifications
The following tables show the environmental guidelines and acceptable levels of
gas and particulate exposure for the TS4500 tape library.
Attention: The environments in Table 35 refer to the hardware of the TS4500 tape
library and may lead to temperatures greater than allowable for the cartridges and
media stored in the library. For frames that contain LTO tape cartridges or IBM
3592 Enterprise Tape Cartridges, refer to their environmental and shipping
specifications. Then, adjust the operating environment for the library accordingly.
Refer to the topics Environmental and shipping specifications for LTO cartridges and
Environmental and shipping specifications for 3592 cartridges.

Notes:
1. Tape products require a stable and more restrictive environment (similar to Class 1). Typical requirements: rate of change of temperature is less than 5°C/h, rate of change
of humidity is less than 5% RH per hour, and no condensation. For 3592 media, changes of up to 40% RH in 5 minutes are allowed as long as the 20% to 80% absolute
limits are not exceeded.
2. Derate maximum dry-bulb temperature 1°C/300 m (1.8°F/984 ft.) above 900 m (2 953 ft.).
