2.16 Electrical System: Modifications and Drawing-Off Power
General Information
The vehicle s oper ate on a 12V electric system for normal requi re m e nts and the chassis is an earth return. This acts as a current
retur n wire betwee n relev ant comp one nts, such as batter y and alternator . All comp one nt negative term i nal s are connected through
the chassis in the absence of an insulated retur n wire .
Installation of auxiliary equipm ent or circuits adde d by the bodybuilde r must take into account the instructions given below. Depending
on the complexity of the modification, suitable documentation (e.g. electrical diagram) must be provided for inclusion with that relating
to the vehicle.
Use c olours and/or codes for wires and connectors equal to those used on t he original vehicle makes the installation more consistent
and facilitates repair work.
For greater details on the vehicle’s electrical system, see the specific Workshop Manual, publication
no. 603.93.681 (Daily 4x4).
This manual is available at the IVECO Service network and can be requested from the relevant De-
partments of the IVECO Sales Organisation.
NOTE
Precautions
The vehic les are equipped with sophisticated electrical/electronic systems con t rollin g their operation.
Work on the system (e.g. removing wiring harness, making additional circuits, replacing equipment, changing fuses, etc.) that is not
done in conformity with IVECO instructions or is carried out by unskilled personnel can severely damage the systems (con trol units,
wiring, sens ors, etc.), jeopardizing safety and operation of the vehicle besides causin g significant damage (e.g. sh o rt-circuiting with
the risk of fire and destruction of the vehicle) that is not covered by warranty.
It is absolutely prohibited to make an y ch an ges or connect ions to the line linkin g the ECU’s (CAN line), which canno t be tampered
with, under any circumstances. Any fault diagnosis or maintenance work can only be done by authorized personnel with IVECO
approved equipment.
- To avoid damaging the vehicle’s electric system, carefully follow the cable manufacturer’s instructions. The cable section and rou t e
shall be adequate to the type of load and the positioning of th e same on the vehicle.
- Do NOT use a quick battery charger for emergency vehicle st arting. Otherwise, the el ectronic systems - in particular, the control
units that perform the lighting and power supplying functions - may be damaged.
Always disconnect the batteries before commencing any work on the electrical system. First disconnect the negative and then
the positive power cable.
Use fuses with the required capacity for their specific function. Never use fuses of higher capacity. Change them only after eliminating
the problem with keys and an cilliaries disconnect ed.
Restore the original conditions of the wiring (rou t ing, guards, and binding, preventing the cable at all costs from co ming into contac t
with metal surfaces of the structure that may impair its integrity).
During work on the chassis frame, to safeguard the electrical system, disconnect the relevant components and the earth connec-
tions, follow th e guides given in points 2.1.1 and 2.3.4.
