GENERAL SAFETY DURING OPERATING PHASES
– Theprocedurescontainedinthismanualhavebeen
testedandselectedbythemanufacturer’stechnical
experts,andhencearetoberecognisedasauthorised
operatingmethods.
– Sometoolsarenormalworkshopones,whileothersare
specialtoolsdesignedbytheManufactureroftheengine.
– Alltoolsmustbeingoodworkingconditionsothatengine
componentsarenotdamagedandthatoperationsare
carriedoutproperlyandsafely.
– Itisimportanttowearthepersonalsafetydevices
prescribedbyworksafetylawsandalsobythestandards
ofthismanual.
– Holesmustbelinedupmethodicallyandwiththeaidof
suitableequipment.Donotuseyourngerstocarryout
thisoperationtoavoidtheriskofamputation.
SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Everyorganisationhasadutytoimplementprocedurestoidentify,
assessandmonitortheinuenceofitsownactivities(products,
services,etc.)ontheenvironment.
Proceduresforidentifyingtheextentoftheimpactontheenvi-
ronmentmustconsiderthefollowingfactors:
- Liquidwaste;
- Wastemanagement;
- Soilcontamination;
- Atmosphericemissions;
- Useofrawmaterialsandnaturalresources;
- Regulationsanddirectivesregardingenvironmentalimpact.
Inordertominimisetheimpactontheenvironment,themanufacturer
nowprovidesanumberofindicationstobefollowedbyallpersons
handlingtheengine,foranyreason,duringitsexpectedlifetime.
- Allpackagingcomponentsmustbedisposedofinaccordance
withthelawsofthecountryinwhichdisposalistakingplace.
- Keep the fuel and engine control systems and the exhaust
pipesinefcientworkingordertolimitenvironmentalandnoise
pollution.
- Whendiscontinuinguseoftheengine,selectallcomponents
accordingtotheirchemicalcharacteristicsanddisposeofthem
separately.
– Somephasesmayrequiretheassistanceofmorethan
oneoperator.Ifso,itisimportanttoinformandtrainthem
regardingthetypeofactivitytheywillbeperformingin
ordertopreventriskstothehealthandsafetyofallpersons
involved.
– Donotuseammableliquids(petrol,diesel,etc.)to
degreaseorwashcomponents.Usespecialproducts.
– Usetheoilsandgreasesrecommendedbythemanufacturer.
Donotmixdifferentbrandsorcombineoilswithdifferent
characteristics.
– Discontinueuseoftheengineifanyirregularitiesarise,
particularlyinthecaseofunusualvibrations.
– Donottamperwithanydevicestoalterthelevelof
performanceguaranteedbythemanufacturer.

. Takecarewhenremovingtheoillterasitmaybehot.
. The operations of checking, lling up and replacing the
coolingliquidmustbecarriedoutwiththeengineturnedoff
and cold. Take particular care ifliquids containing nitrites
are mixed with others not containing these compounds
as this may give rise to the formation of nitrosamines
whichare ahealthhazard. The coolingliquidis polluting,
so dispose of in a manner that does not damage the
environment.

In order to move the engine simultaneously use the
eyebolts tted for this purpose by Kohler. These lifting
pointsare howevernot suitable forthe entiremachine, so
inthiscaseusetheeyeboltsttedbythemanufacturer.
