9.3 Intermittent maintenance
Intermittent maintenance has to be carried out:
at the start of the sowing season;
if the machine is put out of use for a longer period of
time (end of sowing season);
when the machine is used very intensively during the
sowing season.
- Grease the PTO shaft (see fig. 41).
- Grease the profiled tubes of the PTO shaft.
- Grease the pivot points of the marker arms and wheel
supports (fig. 43).
- Grease the right-angled profiled tubes of the drive shafts A
(fig. 44).
After the complete disassembly from the machine of a shaft,
care should be taken during re-assembly that the outer
profiled tube is fitted to the highest connection.
- Grease the shaft ends B (fig. 44) to which the drive shafts
are fitted.
- Check the chain of the metering wheel for wear and tear,
for which purpose the cover on top of the chain casing (fig.
45) has to be dismounted.
- Oil the chain of the sprocket wheel.
- Check the chain tension. Move the bearing block higher up
(untighten nutsA-fig.44)ifthechain needs tightening.
- Check the metering wheel for smooth turning.
- Check the marker discs for smooth and play-free turning.
- Check if the PTO shaft telescopes smoothly. A damaged
PTO shaft may cause excessive wear and tear to the
machine and tractor.
- Check all bolts and nuts for tightness. Tighten loose
bolts/nuts by applying the forces listed in the schedule
below.
