A TROUBLE-SHOOTING
61
Problem
Blockage of seed delivery
hoses.
Effective output does
not meet calibration test.
Hectare counter indicates
a value which differs from
the effective area worked.
Erratic seed distribution.
Marker fails to descend.
Coulter beam fails to descend.
Control of the marker arms
(blue hoses) also actuates the
coulter bar.
Possible causes
• Non-compliance with PTO speed of 540 or 1,000 r.p.m.
• Blockage of coulters caused by driving backwards or lowering the
machine while standing still.
• Throttle valve of fan is closed while normal seeds are applied.
• Kinked delivery tubes.
• Foreign matter in distributor, hoses or coulters.
• Output too small:
- When working out the calibration test, the weight of the bucket was
not deducted from the gross weight of the seeds.
- Foreign matter in front of the metering device interfering with a
proper flow of seeds.
- Cells of metering device (partly) shut off due to contamination such
as sticky seed dressing material.
• Output too big:
- Gasket profile does not close properly.
- During the calibration test, the handle was turned either too rapidly
(more than 1 turn/second) or the wrong way.
- Incorrect adjustment in position N or F of lock for normal
or fine seeds.
• Slip of metering wheel is either more or less than the theoretical
basis of the transmission ratio.
• The sprocket wheel continues turning when the machine is lifted on
headlands.
• Sowing on headlands, so that the area worked exceeds the effective
plot surface.
The above mentioned causes may result in differences up to
approx. 4%. Major differences may be caused by:
• Incorrect chain transmission for metering wheel.
• Malfunctioning hectare counter.
• Counter was not set at zero prior to operation.
• Fan speed too low.
• Interrupted air flow as a result of air leakage due to loose or
damaged parts or foreign matter in the air flow.
• Incorrect position of fan’s throttle valve.
• Ball valve is closed (transport position).
• Hydraulic hoses not connected, or hooked up to the wrong valve.
• Internal leakage in the tractor’s hydraulic system.
