5.3 System Operation for ATEX / IECEx and Cl1 Div2 Applications
Specific precautions may be considered while using the pump system in potential explosive gas
atmospheres according to ATEX / IECEx category 3G/3D and Hazardous Location Cl1/Cl2 Div2.
The pump head of the pump systems must be filled completely with liquid at all time during operation to
avoid the occurrence of combustible atmospheres inside the pump casing. This applies to all pump heads.
Priming issues shall be prevented by the user and precautions must be considered during installing and
maintenance operations.
The user shall prevent electrostatic charging of the system at cleaning processes by using dry cleaning cloth.
User shall use wet cleaning rags to avoid issues with charging during a cleaning process.
Precautions must be considered to prevent priming issues during
installation operation and maintenance of the pump head / motor.
Pump heads must be filled completely with liquid at all time during
operation to avoid the occurrence of combustible atmospheres inside
the pump casing. This applies to all pump heads. Priming issues shall

installing and maintenance operations.
Do Not Operate the Metallic Pump Head Dry!
In case of failure in dry running conditions, the failing rotating impeller
of the metallic pump head can cause sparks. Precautions must be
taken, to avoid explosive atmospheres within the pump head under any
circumstances. Dry running must be avoided. The pump head must be
filled with liquid at any time while the impeller is rotating.
Operational Temperature 100 °C (T5)
Maximum allowed pump liquid temperature is 90 °C / 194 °F for the
use in ATEX / IECEx and Cl1 Div2 applications.
Do Not Operate the Pump against Closed Valves
It shall be avoided to pump against closed valve as this can heat up
the liquid.
Motors for Cl1 Div2 applications. Explosion hazard, do not connect or
disconnect when energized.
