1.3.2 As a one-to-one E1 to T1 Converter

In this application, two slots are used in combination to provide one-to-one E1 to T1 conversion function.
Because of the lower bit rate of the T1 line, only 24 time slots of the E1 line can be utilized in this
interconnection. User can assign any 24 of E1 time slots to any of the 24 T1 time-slots. For digitized voice,
A-law to µ-law conversion will be performed. For CAS (channel associated signaling), the signaling bits will
be placed in their proper places in the respective E1 and T1 formats. Performance monitoring and
maintenance functions, such as local and remote loop backs, are available. By using 4 slot-pairs, 4
independent one-to-one E1 to T1 converters can be realized (see note on Clock Source above).
In a related application, time slots left over on the E1 side can be filled with data from a DTE plug-in card.
