Getting Started Using FirstGear for the Model RT328 ISDN Router
2-4 Hardware Installation
Using Coaxial or Fiber LAN Cabling
For connecting to other media, such as fiber or coaxial cabling, you must have an Ethernet
transceiver for the desired media. The transceiver connects to the AUI port on your router. Follow
the instructions for your transceiver, and select the AUI port in the router configuration process by
using the fields and descriptions in T
able 5-5 on page 5-10 of Chapter 5, “Advanced
Configuration.”
Connecting a Telephone, Fax, or Modem
You can connect an analog telephone, fax, or modem to either of the two Phone ports on your
Model RT328 router in the same way as a normal analog phone line. To use these devices, you
must make sure that your ISDN line is provisioned by your telephone company for both data and
voice calls.
Connecting Power and Verifying Installation
Plug the power adapter into the port labeled 16 V AC and then into a wall outlet.
To verify the installation, switch the power switch to the on position. The PWR LED should turn
on and the TEST LED should begin to blink slowly within 30 seconds. If the connected PC or hub
is turned on, the LAN LINK LED should also be on.
Note:
The Model RT328 router is configured at the factory with the UTP port enabled.
Therefore, your connection for initial configuration using FirstGear must be to the UTP
port.
