Getting Started Using FirstGear for the Model RT328 ISDN Router
Advanced Configuration 5-17
Dial-in Menu Tab
The Dial-in menu tab, as illustrated in Figure 5-8, contains the information necessary to properly
handle any dial-in users. The parameters in this default section affect incoming calls from all
remote dial-in users and remote nodes until authentication is completed.
Private This field determines whether the router includes the route to this remote node in its
RIP broadcasts. If Yes is selected, this route is kept private and not included in RIP
broadcasts. If No is selected, the route to this remote node is propagated to other
hosts through RIP broadcasts.
Call Type If the call is to be left up permanently, select Permanent. If the router dials only when
traffic is present, select On Demand.
Idle Timeout This field specifies the number of idle seconds that elapses before the remote node is
automatically disconnected. Idle seconds is the period of time where no data is passed
between the remote node and your router. Administrative packets such as RIP are not
counted as data. The default is 300 seconds (5 minutes).
Encapsulation Select the CCP (Compression Control Protocol) implementation to be used for the node.
The two options in this field are:
Standard PPP: Standard PPP options are used.
CISCO PPP: Cisco PPP options are used.
Compression This field enables the Hi/Fn (MS-Stac) Compression.
Bandwidth on
Demand
Select the mode desired for connecting B channels to this remote node. The options are:
One channel max: Only one B channel is used when connecting to this node.
Always Use two channels: Both B channels are used when a packet triggers a call.
Automatic: Usage is determined dynamically by parameters set below.
Second channel parameters: If Bandwidth on Demand is automatic, enter the
percentage of use and duration for dynamically adding and dropping a second
B channel.
