Outgoing: This parameter group configures the router to call the remote node. This group is
valid only if Call Direction is set to Both or Out.
Login Name In this field, enter the login name your router uses when it calls this remote node.
Login Password In this field, enter the password your router uses when it calls this remote node.
Primary and
Secondary
Dial Number
In this field, enter the primary and second phone numbers. The primary and
secondary phone numbers are the numbers that the router dials to connect to
the remote node. The router always calls the remote node using the primary
phone number first. If the primary phone number is busy or does not answer, the
router calls the secondary phone number if available.
Authentication This field sets the authentication protocol used for outgoing calls. The router
supports two authentication protocols: PAP (Password Authentication Protocol)
and CHAP (Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol). PAP sends the
user’s name and password in plain text. CHAP scrambles the password before it
is sent over the wire. Options for this field are:
• CHAP/PAP: The router will try CHAP when CHAP is requested by the remote
node or PAP when PAP is requested by the remote node. (Default)
• CHAP: Use CHAP only.
• PAP: Use PAP only.
Call Type
(North America only)
This field controls the rate at which the data is transferred between your router
and the remote node. There are three options for this field:
• 64K: The router places 64 Kbps digital data calls. (Default)
• 56K: The router places 56 Kbps digital data calls.
• DOSBS: The router places 56 Kbps Data Over Speech Bearer Service
(DOSBS) calls. Some phone companies in North America charge less if calls
are made with the DOSBS option.
Single IP Address (NAT) Select this option if your ISP provides you with only one IP address for your
account. This option enables NAT (IP Address Masquerading) so that hosts on
your LAN can all share that single address for Internet access. You must specify
whether the address is fixed (static) or dynamically assigned each time you dial
in to the remote node.
If you are using this feature, you must also configure the following parameters:
• Assigned IP Address: If your ISP has assigned you a single fixed IP address,
enter that address here.
• Local Server Address: If you have a server on your LAN (a Web server,
for example) with a fixed IP address and you want to make it accessible
to outside users, enter that server’s IP address here.
