Chapter 1: Olympus

Digital Recorder — Model DS-4000
Configure your recorder with the settings and options recommended by
Nuance and set your own personal preferences. Refer to “Setting Up
the DS-4000 Recorder ” on page 7 in this chapter.
Install the Olympus DSS Player Pro software and any available
patches/updates. Refer to Chapter 2, “Installing the Olympus
®
DSS
Player Pro Software,” on page 9.
Install the Dictaphone EXV Olympus Uploader application. Refer to
Chapter 3, “Installing the Dictaphone EXV Olympus Uploader
Application,” on page 27.
Configure EXVoice for use with the Olympus recorder. Refer to
Chapter 4, “Configuring EXVoice for Using the DS-4000 Recorder,”
on page 39.
Record a test dictation and test the upload process. Refer to “Uploading
a Test Dictation” on page 57.
Main Features of the Olympus DS-
4000 Recorder
The main features of the DS-4000 recorder are:
Slide switch operation for ease of use and fast
response
Dual function cradle docking station, for
recharging of Ni-MH rechargeable battery
pack and for downloading data from the
recorder to a PC
Two programmable buttons (A and B)
Recording and storing voice files in DSS
format
Two recording modes: SP (Standard Play) and
LP (Long Play)
Five folders and up to 199 files in each folder, for a maximum of 995
recordings
Built-in Variable Control Voice Actuator (VCVA) function
USB Audio Device that allows the recorder to be used as a USB
microphone or USB speaker when connected to a PC
Large LCD screen with backlight
DSS Player Pro software included
