Chapter 7: Troubleshooting the DS-4000 Recorder
Third-Party Software Problems
There are certain known problems with certain types of third party
software. You can take the following actions to avoid or eliminate these
types of problems.
Disable Adobe Photo Manager if it is installed. Verify that Adobe
Photo Manager is not installed on the PC. If it is on the PC, it must be
uninstalled. Adobe added this program to its installation of the Adobe
Reader and it might have been installed without your being aware of it.
There is a known conflict with Adobe Photo Manager in that this
program can recognize the DS-4000 recorder before the Olympus
Device Detector does. Symptoms include the intermittent
disappearance of the Device Detector from the Notification Area.
Uninstall any software programs designed to look for DSS files.
Remove any removable storage drives.
Background or other noises
heard during playback.
Cell phones or fluorescent lamps can interfere with recording
or playback. Avoid close proximity to these devices when
recording or playing back.
Be sure the recording sensitivity is set to DICT (dictate)
instead of CONF (conference). See “Setting Up the DS-
4000 Recorder ” on page 7 for instructions or refer to the
