7-3 Connecting USB Cable

The connection between the EtherCAT Coupler Unit and computer is set up with the Sysmac Studio.
Refer to 2-3-2 Connection Method and Procedures on page 2-7 for the procedure to connect to the
Sysmac Studio.
When you connect the computer to the EtherCAT Coupler Unit, the USB specifications impose the fol-
lowing restrictions.
• You can connect only one computer to only one EtherCAT Coupler Unit with a USB connection. You
cannot connect more than one of each at the same time.
• Do not disconnect the USB cable while the Sysmac Studio is online with the EtherCAT Coupler Unit.
Always place the Sysmac Studio offline before you disconnect the USB cable. If you remove the USB
cable when the Sysmac Studio is online, the online connection cannot be restored simply by connect-
ing the USB cable again. If necessary, place the Sysmac Studio offline, connect the USB cable again,
and then perform the procedure to place the Sysmac Studio online again.
