Purpose of the 130-MC
The REF TEK 130-MC combines the Third Generation Seismic Recorder (REF TEK 130-03). The 130-
MC system is housed in a rugged and versatile enclosure. The 130-MC is a rugged, portable, and
versatile data recorder. The modular design of their hardware and software allows you to
reconfigure the 130-MC system for various types of applications for continuously monitoring
earthquakes and other seismic events by thoroughly measuring strong earthquake shaking at
ground sites, in buildings and critical structures, and automatically broadcasting information
when a significant earthquake occurs. This allows immediate assessment of an impact.
Some specific uses include the following:
• Free field reference station for strong motion.
• Telemetry networks
• Aftershock studies
• Building arrays
• Structural monitoring
