3) Cooling system
3.1) Coolant check/replenish
General note
Instruction See Fig. 2.
To refill the coolant the following steps are necessary.

Always allow engine to cool down to ambient temper-
ature before start of any work.

Never open the radiator cap when the cooling system
is hot. For safety’s sake, cover cap with a rag and
open slowly. Sudden opening of the cap could pro-
voke the escape of boiling coolant and result in scald-
ing.
Step Procedure
1 Open the radiator cap (1) on the expansion tank (2).
2 Check the coolant level. The coolant level must be filled up to the top (see
Sketch).
3 Inspect coolant with densimeter or glycol tester. Strongly discolored or thick-
ened coolant must be replaced.
4 Use only coolant as recommended in the current Operators
Manual.
If necessary, replenish with coolant of same composition.
5 Tighten the radiator cap by hand.
NOTE: The radiator cap must be tightened until the stop lug is
contacted.
NOTICE
Step Procedure
1 Operate the engine until the temperatures have stabilized for a period of 5 min.
(engine oil temperature between 50 to 70 °C (122 - 160 °F).
2 Switch the engine OFF.
3 Allow the engine to cool down.
4 Check for leaks.
5 Check the coolant level and top up with coolant as required.
