6.6 - Ethernet Troubleshooting
If there is an Ethernet bridge problem (i.e. the two LAN do not communicate through the bridge), first
check if there is a radio link problem.
Use the troubleshooting procedure included in Chapter 4 of this manual. Additional Bit Error Test
could be made on an additional E1 tributary to check link quality.
If there is not a radio problem, the default is probably due to a mismatch between Ethernet bridge
configuration and LANs Ethernet configuration.
To fix the problem, it could be necessary to modify LANs and bridge configurations. Use the following
procedure :
Symptom Probable Cause Corrective action
Ethernet green
LED off
Ethernet alarm
on the Pilot
Ethernet cable not properly connected on the local
terminal, or the Ethernet interface which is connected
to the bridge does not work
Check Ethernet cable, and verify that the
Ethernet interface connected to the
bridge works properly
Ethernet green
LED ON, no
alarm, but the
two LAN don't
communicate
Mismatch between the LAN and bridge configuration
• Verify that the two LAN are working
properly separately, and record LAN
Ethernet configurations (10/100
baseT, Full/Half Duplex /
Autonegotiation)
• Select autonegotiation for all Ethernet
devices (bridges, PCs…) if available,
or choose a default configuration and
configure manually all Ethernet
devices accordingly
