Wireless Probes
Equipment Setup for Optimal Scanning
The radio frequency (RF) transmitters used in the ACUSON Freestyle to send image data from
the probe to the console are designed to cover distances of no more than three (3) meters. It is
important to make sure that the distance between the probe and the console does not exceed
three (3) meters. Improved performance may be achieved with shorter distances.
When scanning, do not hold your hand at the back of the probe because by doing so you
may cover up the primary internal antennas and disrupt the wireless communication with the
console. Hold your hand towards the front of the probe.
The console and the probe should be oriented with the console facing the location of the
transducer with a clear line of sight. The quality of the wireless link is weakened if the co-
location of the two is too far out of plane, horizontally or vertically. The antennas in the console
that communicate with the probe are located in the upper-left corner of the front of the display.
Do not block these console locations; they must form a clear line of sight with the probe.
NOTE: Noise on the image, or disruptions in the wireless link, may be caused by
RF generators in the vicinity. If problems occur, try relocating offending devices away
from the system.
CAUTION: Operating more than one ACUSON Freestyle system in wireless probe
mode in the same room where a probe is within ve (5) meters of an unintended console
unit, may cause interference problems on the unintended console unit. If this occurs,
increase the distance from the probe to the unintended console unit until the interference
disappears.
