If it is necessary to aid a person suffering from Sudden Cardiac Arrest, please remember to follow the sequence of
actions recommended by the AHA/ERC guidelines.
The ERC has endorsed an aid protocol to be complied with during the resuscitation of a person suffering from Sudden
Cardiac Arrest; this protocol has been given the name “chain of survival”.
1 Make sure that the person is unconscious, is not breathing and has no heartbeat and call the emergency
number immediately.
2 While waiting for a defibrillator to become available, start Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation manoeuvres
immediately.
3 Switch on the defibrillator and follow the audio instructions to restore normal heartbeat.
4 Continue until the arrival of medical personnel.
