If you experience any of the following
difficuhies while using the receiver, use this
troubleshooting guide to help you remedy the
problem. Should an): problem persist, consult
your nearest Sony dealer.
There is no sound no matter which component
is selected.
• Check that both tile receiva and all components
are Hulled on.
• Check that tile MASTER VOLUME W÷ control is
not set at _ dB.
• Check that tile SPEAKERS is not set to off
(page 43).
• Check fliat all speaker cords are connected
conectly
• Press MUTING on the remote to cancel tile
muting fimction.
There is no sound from a specific component.
• Check that tile component is connected conectly
to the audio input jacks tbr that component.
• Check fliat the cord(s) used for the connection is
(are) fiflly inserted into the jacks on both the
receiver and the component
There is no sound from one of the front
speakers.
• Cmmect a pair of headphones to the PHONES
jack to veri_' that sotmd is output from tile
hea@hones. If only one channel is output froln the
hea@hones, the component may not be connected
to the receiver correctly. Check that all the cords
are fiflly inserted into the jacks on both the
receiver and the component If both channels are
output flora the headphones, the fiont speaker
may not be connected to the receiver correctly.
Check the connection of the front speaker which is
not outputting any sound.
There is no sound or only a very low-level
sound is heard.
• Check that the speakers and components are
connected securely
• Check flint you have selected the conect
COillponent Oil tile receiver
• Check flint tile SPEAKERS is not set to off
(page 43)
• Check that tile hea@hones are not cmmected
• Press MUTING on the remote to cancel tile
muting fimction.
• The protective device on the receiver has been
activated because of a sholt circuit Turn off tile
receiver, eliminate tile short-circuit problem and
turn on tile power again.
There is no sound from analog 2 channel
sources.
• Check that the INPUT MODE is not set to "COAX
IN" nor "OPT IN" (page 36)
• Check that the MULTI (H IN function is selected
There is no sound from digital sources (from
COAXIAL or OPTICAL input jack).
• Check that the INPUT NIODE is not set to
"ANALOG" (page 36) Check that the INPUT
MODE is not set to 'COAX IN" for the sources from
OPTICAL input jack, nor set to "OPT IN" for the
sources from COAXIAL input jack
• Check that flie MULTI (H IN fimction is selected
The left and right sounds are unbalanced or
reversed.
• Check that the speakeis and colnponents me
connected correctly and secmely
• Adjust balance parameters in the LEVEL menu.
There is severe hum or noise.
• Check that the speakeis and components me
connected secm-ely.
• Check that the connecting cords are away from a
transformer or motor and at least 3 meters away
from a TV set or Nmrescent light.
• Move yore TV away from the audio components
• Make sure you have grolmded • SIGNAL GND
terminal (only when a turntable is connected).
• Tile plugs and jacks are dir b, Wipe them with a
cloth sligNly moistened with alcohol
There is no sound from the center speaker.
• Make sure file sound field filnction is on (press
A.F.D., MOVIE or MUSIC).
• Select tile CINEMA STUDIO EX mode
(page 32).
• Adjust tile speaker level (page 23).
• Make sure file center speaker is set to either
"SMALL" or "LARGE" (page 20).
There is no sound from the surround back
speakers,
• Some discs have no Dolby Digital EX flag even
though the packages have Dolby Digital EX
logos In this case select "SB MTRX' (page 39).
There is no sound or only a very low-level
sound is heard from the surround/surround
back speakers.
• Make sure file sound field filnction is on (press
A.F.D., MOVIE or MUSIC).
• Select a CINEMA STUDIO EX mode (page 32).
