SC5 Signal Conversion Fast Analog Output
34
Fast Analog Output
The fast analog output FAST AO (10) is designed for driving the input of a Nanonis PD5 or HVA4 with fast AUX
channel. It provides waveforms necessary for the motion of piezo motors, which are defined in the function
generator module of the Nanonis software. Due to the greater required bandwidth, the noise and drift performance of
the fast analog output is not comparable to that of the analog outputs AO1 AO8 (2), and therefore this output
should not be used for any purpose other than the one specified above. The output voltage range of the fast analog
output is ±10 V (no unipolar setting), and hrDACcannot be used with this output.
This chapter explains how to connect the SC5 fast analog output FAST AO (10) to other equipment, and explains in
more detail the output stage.
Fast analog output connection
The fast analog output of the SC5 can be connected to the experiment using a BNC cable, as shown in the picture
below.
Figure 15: Connection of the fast analog output BNC cable.
There are no external controls for the fast analog output. The output waveform is configured using the function
generator module of the Nanonis software.
Fast analog output schematic
The fast analog output FAST AO (10) is referenced to AGND. This means that the shield of the output BNC is not
connected to PE, except if a BNC short plug is connected to the GND BNC connector (7) at the back of the SC5 as
