6 Initial start-up
6.1 Preparing the instrument for use
Information
Use only the power cable supplied with the instrument.
Before switching on the instrument, proceed as follows:
1. Arrest the instrument using the roller brakes.
2. Connect the argon supply hose to the connector jack on the back side of the
instrument (no argon is required for arc discharge).
Ensure to latch the quick-release fastener properly.
3. Set the argon pressure to 5 bar ±10%.
The instrument is ready for use.
6.2 Switching on the instrument
To switch on the unit, proceed as follows:
1. Press the "Power" button and keep it pressed for approx. 2 seconds.
The unit is switched on.
The computer is turned on.
The most recently used application program is started.
Depending on the sample probe that is used, the system is flushed with
argon for 5 or 15 minutes. If the arc program with carbon analysis is
loaded, the system is flushed with purified air for 15 seconds.
2. Wait for the argon flushing process to be completed.
The flushing progress is displayed on the screen.
3. To switch on the plasma generator, press the switch:
The sample probe status display lights up green.
The unit is now ready to measure.
