Fault Possible cause Remedy
No correct focal spot in
the spark mode.
The pressure controller on
the gas cylinder is not
open wide enough.
See the error message in the
software status line.
Adjust the required pressure.
The pressure monitor and
the flow controller inside
the unit are not properly
adjusted any more.
Please contact your service
center.
The argon supply line
quick-release coupling is
not properly locked on the
unit.
Let the quick-release coupling
lock properly.
The adapter is not locked
in properly up to the stop.
Check whether the adapter is
properly seated and correct it if
necessary.
The electrode gap is not
correct.
Adjust the electrode gap using
the spacer.
The sample surface has
not been properly
prepared (not polished,
observe roughness).
Prepare the surface to be tested
in a suitable way with the aid of
abrasive paper (disk sander or
hand sander).
The sample surface is not
flat enough or it has air
inclusions.
Prepare the surface to be tested
in a suitable way with the aid of
abrasive paper (disk sander or
hand sander).
The argon outlet (exhaust)
of the sample probe is
plugged with condensate.
Flush it with the aid of the "Flush"
function.
While flushing, close the sample
opening of the adapter and close
the exhaust for approx.
1 second,
then open it.
Insufficient maintenance
(cleaning) of the adapter,
especially of the Teflon
insert, has caused
clogging of the flushing
bores.
Clean the adapter thoroughly.
