8 Assembling the Trimmer / Brushcutter
8.3.2 Removing a Mowing Head
To remove a mowing head:
► Shut off the engine, @ 12.1.
► Block the rotation of the drive shaft with the stop pin.
► Position the unit so that you are facing the underside of 
the deflector and the drive shaft is facing upwards.
► Unscrew the mowing head by turning it clockwise.
► Remove the thrust plate.
► Remove the stop pin from the hole in the gearbox.
8.4 Mounting and Removing a Metal Cutting 
Attachment
8.4.1 Mounting a Metal Cutting Attachment
WARNING
Metal cutting attachments have many sharp cutting edges. If 
they contact your flesh, they will cut you, even if the metal 
cutting attachment is not moving. Always wear heavy-duty 
work gloves when mounting or otherwise handling a metal 
cutting attachment, @ 5.4.
WARNING
A metal cutting attachment that is damaged or loose may 
vibrate, crack, break or come off the unit, which may result 
in serious or fatal injury or property damage. Make sure the 
metal cutting attachment is properly tightened and in good 
condition before starting work, @ 5.7.5.
To mount a metal cutting attachment:
► Shut off the engine, @ 12.1.
► Position the unit so that you are facing the underside of 
the deflector and the drive shaft is pointed upwards.
► Slip the thrust plate (5) onto the drive shaft (6). Keep the 
side of the thrust plate with the smaller diameter facing 
upwards.
► Place the cutting attachment (4) directly on top of the 
thrust plate. Ensure that the cutting attachment is 
positioned to rotate in the direction indicated on the 
deflector.
► Slip the thrust washer (3) onto the drive shaft. Keep the 
arched side facing up and the flat side facing towards the 
metal cutting attachment.
► Slip the rider plate (2) onto the drive shaft.
► Insert the stop pin (7) in the hole in the gearbox and rotate 
the cutting attachment until the stop pin slips into position 
and blocks the rotation of the drive shaft.
