14 During Operation
Stopping the Engine
► Start the engine, @ 11.1.
► Depress the stop switch.
The engine should stop.
► If the engine does not stop, move the choke lever to 
position  and have the unit repaired before use.
14.1 Using the Trimmer / Brushcutter
WARNING
Always wear proper clothing and protective apparel, 
including proper eye protection, when operating your 
trimmer, @ 5.4. Keep bystanders at least 50 ft. (15 m) away 
from the work area, @ 5.7.5. Work carefully and maintain 
proper control of the trimmer, @ 5.7.3.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries to the operator 
or bystanders, keep hands, feet and other parts of the body 
away from the cutting attachment, @ 5.7.3. Do not touch 
the cutting attachment while the engine is running. Never 
touch the moving cutting attachment with your hand or any 
part of your body, @ 5.7.5.
The trimmer / brushcutter is designed for two-handed 
operation.
Mowing with a Mowing Head, Grass Cutting Blade or Brush 
Knife
► When working with a mowing head, swing the unit back 
and forth carefully in a controlled manner parallel to the 
ground, as depicted in Illustration A, above.
► When working with a grass cutting blade or brush knife, 
sweep the unit in a controlled pattern parallel to the 
ground as depicted in Illustration B, above.
► Move forward slowly, keeping two hands on the unit at all 
times.
Cutting Wild Growth and Scrub with a Brush Knife
► To cut wild growth and scrub, lower the rotating brush 
knife down onto the growth to achieve a chopping effect. 
Keep the brush knife below waist height at all times.
