16 After Finishing Work
► Remove the screw (1).
► Pull out the shutter (2).
► Re-insert the shutter as shown above. The "winter" 
symbol points toward the mark (3).
► Push the shutter into the slot until it stops.
► Tighten the screw.
NOTICE
The winter operation setting should only be used in ambient 
temperatures below 50 °F (10 °C). Use at higher 
temperatures may cause the engine to overheat, resulting in 
permanent damage. Always remember to return the shutter 
to the configuration that is appropriate for ambient 
temperature conditions.
In extreme wintry conditions with temperatures below 
+ 14 °F (- 10 °C) or when working in powder or drifting snow, 
a cover plate must also be mounted to the engine housing 
and an air filter with plastic mesh must be installed. These 
accessories are available from STIHL servicing dealers.
15.4 Summer Operation
The shutter must be set to summer mode when working at 
temperatures above 50 °F (10°C).
► Shut off the engine, @ 12.1.
► Remove the screw (1).
► Pull out the shutter (2).
► Re-insert the shutter as shown above. The "summer" 
symbol points toward the mark (3).
► Push the shutter into the slot until it stops.
► Tighten the screw.
16.1 Preparing for Transportation or Storage
WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury from unintended 
activation or unauthorized use, shut off the engine and 
ensure the cutting attachment has stopped before 
transporting the trimmer or putting it down.
To prepare the trimmer for transportation or storage:
► Shut off the engine, @ 12.1.
► If using a metal cutting attachment, mount the transport 
guard.
► Wait for the engine to cool down.
