In demineralization, all ionic compounds dissolved in the water are completely removed by the ion ex-
change process. A mixed bed ion exchanger is lled with a mixture of cation and anion exchange resin.
The ion exchange resin consists for the most part of styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer. The ion ex-
changer exchanges hydrogen ions (H
+
) and anions for hydroxide ions (OH
-
). When the cartridge is used
up, it can be replenished.
The conductivity measurement is processed in order to protect the humidier, and ensures maximum
reliability where the quality of the water produced by reverse osmosis or ion exchange is concerned. The
conductivity monitor consists of a controller for wall mounting, with integrated conductivity measurement
device and a conductivity measuring probe for monitoring the water quality. You can select any conduc-
tivity alarm switchpoint you wish, which is highly exible to suit requirements and the quality of the water
produced. The alarm can be output by NC or NO contacts and an acoustic alarm. The alarm contacts
can be connected to a USM/USS controller. Then, the humidier is automatically switched off when the
threshold value is exceeded. If you use an ion exchange cartridge for water treatment, the use of a con-
ductivity monitor is absolutely essential in order to determine when the cartridge needs replacing. Use of
this monitor is also recommended if you use a reverse osmosis system.
If the available drinking water is very hard, the additional installation of water softening equipment up-
stream of the reverse osmosis system is recommended. This uses the ion exchange process to replace
calcium and magnesium cations with sodium cations.
