The DSM provides large capacity
SCCP/database functionality. The
DSM is an application card that
supports network specific functions
such as EAGLE Provisioning
Application Processor (EPAP),
Global System for Mobile
Communications (GSM), EAGLE
Local Number Portability (ELAP),
and interface to Local Service
Management System (LSMS).
E
Equipment Identity RegisterEIR
A network entity used in GSM
networks, as defined in the 3GPP
Specifications for mobile networks.
The entity stores lists of International
Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI)
numbers, which correspond to
physical handsets (not subscribers).
Use of the EIR can prevent the use
of stolen handsets because the
network operator can enter the IMEI
of these handsets into a 'blacklist'
and prevent them from being
registered on the network, thus
making them useless.
