PM5020 Dual-Channel Benchtop Power and Energy Meter Chapter 4 Operating Instructions
Rev: 1.0, 18-Aug-2022 © 2022 Thorlabs
DE-9 connector
Sensors can be hot-swapped to the power meter interface. After recognizing a new valid sensor, the type
and calibration data will be downloaded to the power meter interface and the unit is ready to operate with
the new sensor.
Note
Older Thorlabs Sensors without a red "C-Series" connector
The PM5020 power meter will NOT automatically recognize sensors lacking a red "C-Series" connector, as
for the case of the 'A' and 'B' series. Please contact Thorlabs for an upgrade of old sensors with DE-9 con-
nectors.
Note
Custom Sensors
To use sensors without a DE-9 connector, manufactured by Thorlabs or else, the user may provide an ap-
propriate adapter. To build the adapter, refer to the Pin-out of the DE-9 connector shown in the chapter
Pin Sensor Connectors. The adapter will per default automatically be recognized as "Photodiode adapter".
The sensor type can then be adjusted in the Settings Menu under "Channel" on the touch screen.
4.4 Analog Output
The PM5020 power meter offers several analog output ports and settings to monitor the measurement
values by a connected oscilloscope or digital volt meter (DVM), processing the signals by an external di-
gital-to-analog-converter (DAC) card, or using the signals for control loops.
The analog output ports AN1 and AN2, X1 and X2, as well as Y1 and Y2, for sensors 1 or 2, respectively, can
be configured in the Settings Menu.
To go to the interface:
1. Open the setting menu with the top icon in the side menu.
2. Select the channel of interest in the top row.
