CarryingPassengers
Wheneveryouhaveapassengerridinginthemachinemake
sureheorsheiswearingtheseatbeltandholdingonsecurely.
Driveslowerandturnlesssharplybecauseyourpassenger
doesnotknowwhatyouaregoingtodonextandmaynotbe
preparedforturning,stopping,accelerating,andbumps.
Youandyourpassengershouldremainseatedatalltimes,
keepingarmsandlegsinsidethemachine.Theoperator
shouldkeepbothhandsonsteeringwheel,wheneverpossible,
andthepassengershouldusethehandholdsprovided(Figure
38andFigure39).

ControllingtheSpeedoftheVehicle

accidents.Drivingtoofastfortheconditionscancauseyou
tolosecontrolandhaveanaccident.Speedcanalsomakea
minoraccidentworse.Drivinghead-onintoatreeatslow
speedcancauseinjuryanddamage,but,drivingintoatreeat
highspeedcandestroythemachineandkillyouandyour
passenger.

abouthowfasttodrive,slowdown.
Whenusingheavyattachments,morethan454kg(1000lb),
suchassprayers,topdressers,orspreaders,etc.,restrictyour
operatingspeedbyselectinglowrange.
EnsuringProperTurning
Turningisanotherimportantvariableleadingtoaccidents.
Turningtoosharplyfortheconditionscancausethemachine
tolosetractionandskid,oreventipover.
Wet,sandy,andslipperysurfacesmaketurningmoredifcult
andrisky.Thefasteryouaregoing,theworsethissituation
becomesso,slowdownbeforeturning.
Duringasharpturnathigherspeeds,theinsiderearwheel
mayliftofftheground.Thisisnotaawinthedesign,it
happenswithmostfourwheelmachinesincludingpassenger
cars.Ifthishappens,youareturningtoosharplyforthespeed
atwhichyouaretraveling.Slowdown!
