TRUCK MODIFICATIONS
Unauthorized forklift modication is not permitted.
Per OSHA 1910.178, no modications or alterations to a powered
industrial truck, which may affect capacity, stability or safe operation
of the forklift shall be made without the prior written approval of
UniCarriers Americas Corporation [UCA], its authorized representative
or a successor thereof.
After receiving the approval of UniCarriers Americas Corporation, its
authorized representative or a successor thereof, the data & capacity
plate, decals, tags, operation and maintenance manuals shall also be
changed appropriately.
Only in the event that UniCarriers Americas Corporation is no longer
in business and there is no successor to the business, the user may
arrange for a modication or alteration to a powered industrial forklift,
provided however, that the user shall:
a. Arrange for the modication or alteration to be designed,
tested and implemented by an engineer(s) expert in industrial
forklifts for their safety;
b. Maintain a permanent record of the design, test(s) and
implementation of the modication or alteration;
c. Approve and make appropriate changes to the data &
capacity plate(s), decals, tags, and operation and
maintenance manuals;
d. Afx a permanent and readily visible label to the forklift stating
the manner in which the forklift has been modied or altered
together with the date of the modication or alteration,
and the name and address of the organization that performed
the modication or alteration.
