How to remove yellow or brown marks from items in my Viking FDB451 Dishwasher?
    • R
      Ryan DavisSep 3, 2025
To remove yellow or brown marks from items in your Viking dishwasher, you can try a temporary or permanent solution. For a temporary fix, pour one teaspoon to one tablespoon of citric acid crystals instead of the prewash detergent, followed by a full detergent wash using the pots/pans or normal wash cycle. For a permanent solution, install an iron removal system in the water supply. Also, be aware that a yellow film on sterling silver can result from washing copper items in the same load, but silver polish usually removes the stain. Tea or coffee can also stain cups; remove these stains by hand using a solution of 1/2 cup bleach and 3 cups warm water (but do not use this on sterling silver or silverplate).

    • K
      Kathleen Smith DVMSep 1, 2025
If your dishes are not clean after using your Viking dishwasher, check that both wash arms can rotate freely and that items do not obstruct their movement. Lift the arms and make sure that no grains of dirt retard the rotation of the wash arms. If necessary, clear any obstruction, refit the arms, and check that they rotate freely. Be sure a utensil or handle has not prevented their turning.

How to prevent cloudy film on glassware (etching) in my Viking FDB451 Dishwasher?
    • J
      jesserothAug 30, 2025
Cloudy film on glassware, or etching, in your Viking dishwasher is often caused by using too much detergent, especially in soft water. If vinegar or citric acid rinse doesn’t remove the film, the cloudiness is likely permanent etching. To prevent this, use the least amount (one teaspoon) of recommended dishwasher detergent if you have soft water. Use high-quality dishwashing detergent and rinse aid, avoid overloading the machine, ensure water circulates freely, and dry without heat.

    • M
      Megan DaviesAug 27, 2025
If detergent is left in the detergent compartment of your Viking dishwasher, it could be due to: * Improperly loaded items blocking the compartment cover. Try moving dishes that may be obstructing it. * Old detergent that has hardened or caked. Discard old detergent and use only fresh detergent, adding it just before starting the dishwasher.

To prevent spotting and filming on dishes in your Viking dishwasher: * Ensure the rinse agent dispenser is full. * Use the correct amount of fresh dishwasher detergent, appropriate for your water hardness and selected wash program. Store detergent in a dry, closed container, and replace it if results are still unsatisfactory. * Load items according to the instructions, avoiding overloading and ensuring water reaches all surfaces. * If you have hard water, consider using additional products designed to eliminate hard water deposits.

How to get my Viking FDB451 Dishwasher to dry dishes?
    • N
      Nicholas MartinezAug 23, 2025
If your dishes are not drying in your Viking dishwasher, consider the following: * If you're using a non-heat drying option, allow more drying time. * Fill the rinse agent dispenser, as rinse agent helps dishes dry faster. * Be aware that certain plastic materials are difficult to dry and may need towel drying. * Avoid overloading or nesting items, ensure all surfaces drain well, and load items with concave bases so water can run off. Unload the lower rack first to prevent water from the upper rack spilling onto the lower rack.
