102 Chain
WARNING (APPLIES TO US MODELS ONLY)
Bicycles with coaster brakes require a suciently high chain tension and a perfect
t/parallel alignment of the chain to function properly, as the coaster brake may fail
otherwise. You should therefore inspect and service the chain at regular intervals
(see Chapters 9 and 11) as outlined by the maintenance instructions provided in this
chapter. Failure to observe this information can result in material damage, severe
damage to health (danger to life) or death.
As the chain wears, it becomes longer. If it wears too much, it can damage the sprockets.
The chain and sprockets should therefore be checked regularly for wear (see Chapter 11).
Lubricating the chain
The chain must be cleaned and lubricated regularly. See Chapter 9 for information on cleaning
the chain and other drivetrain components. Use a suitable chain oil to lubricate the chain and
be careful not to apply too much oil to the chain. Remove any excess oil with a rag.
To lubricate the woom ORIGINAL 2 and woom ORIGINAL 3 chain, the chainguard must be
removed (see the instructions for removing the chainguard in this chapter). The chain on the
woom ORIGINAL 3 AUTOMAGIC can be lubricated without having to remove the chainguard.
WARNING
Make sure that the oil does not come into contact with the brake pads!
If oil gets on the brake pads, they must be replaced. Failure to observe this information
can result in material damage, severe damage to health (danger to life) or death.
