“Sample
Pre-freeze”
1. Were the sample
probe and tube
clean? Are the
probe wipers dirty?
2. Is the probe config-
uration correct?
3. Check the stir/
freeze wire align-
ment and adjust-
ment (see Chapter
4, Sections G.5 and
G.6 and figure 11).
4. Particulate matter,
congealed fat and
certain bacteria tend
to cause premature
crystallization. Note
that bacteria-caused
premature freezing
generally cannot be
alleviated by heat-
ing or filtering the
sample.
5. Does the clapper
and/or the stir wire
coil show excessive
wear?
a. Replace the probe
wipers and test another
aliquot of that sample
in a clean sample tube.
b. Check/correct the
probe bin numbers.
c. Correct the stir/freeze
wire alignment and
ad-justment as neces-
sary.
d. Try to minimize the
effects of materials that
tend to cause premature
crystallization.
If the error persists, see
Chapter 5, Section C
for further assistance.
e. See Chapter 5,
Section C for fur-
ther assistance and
possible replacement
of the yoke, clapper,
and coil by a qualified
service technician.
